CHC Chair Statement on Eric Garcetti’s Confirmation as Ambassador to India
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Senate confirmed Eric Garcetti as U.S. Ambassador to India. Following the Senate confirmation vote, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán released the following statement:
“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) applauds the confirmation of Eric Garcetti as U.S. Ambassador to India. The CHC supported Eric’s nomination and it is great to see him become the first Latino to hold this key ambassadorship with one of our country’s critical global allies.
Eric Garcetti served as Mayor of Los Angeles, the second largest city in the country, where he formed direct relationships with the Indian-American business community and diaspora. His diverse experience with human rights, climate change, and global trade will help reinforce our relationships with the Eastern Hemisphere in these key areas and his presence will fill the diplomatic gap that has existed with the world’s largest democracy. We look forward to his ambassadorship, where he will continue to strengthen the ties between Latino and Indian communities and build economic and multicultural bridges.”
