Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement on reaching the October 5th DACA renewal deadline, which will leave tens of thousands of DACA recipients unprotected as a result of the artificial cutoff date:
"Today is a sad day in America. Today the President of the United States and his administration began to undocument the documented. It began when President Trump irresponsibly ended DACA and set an arbitrary and rushed 30 day renewal period endangering thousands of young Americans. Now, the President recklessly and dangerously leaves young patriots who have met every requirement to earn DACA status unprotected from deportation. Not only is this shameful, but it tears at the moral fiber of who we are as a country. We urge House Republicans to put aside partisan politics and join us in calling for a vote on the bi-partisan, bi-cameral Dream Act. If every Member who has signed legislation that provides relief for Dreamers courageously joined us on the DREAM Act, then there is no doubt that the bill would pass. The lives of hundreds of thousands of young people are on the line and Congress has no time to waste."
