CHC Chair Barragán Statement on Senate Impeachment Trial Against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair (CHC) Nanette Barragán released the following statement in response to the Senate vote to dismiss impeachment charges against U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Republicans refuse to provide the President and DHS Secretary Mayorkas with the resources the Administration has requested to address the challenges at our border and to create a more orderly asylum process. Instead, they wasted time and taxpayer money on a baseless attempt to impeach the Secretary to cover for their own failure. Many of their own members admitted they lacked any evidence of a high crime or misdemeanor. This was a political and partisan attack against a dedicated and honorable public servant over policy disagreements.

I appreciate Leader Schumer and Senate Democrats refusing to let this political stunt play out any longer so the U.S. Congress can move forward and continue our work on behalf of the American people."
