WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Representative Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), released the following statement in support of the Senate confirmation of President Biden’s Federal Reserve nominee, Dr. Adriana Kugler, to the Board of the Federal Reserve. Dr. Kugler made history yesterday by becoming the first Latinaconfirmed to serve on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in its 109-year history.
“Congratulations to Dr. Adriana Kugler on her historic Senate confirmation to the Federal Reserve. Dr. Kugler is a highly qualified candidate with an extensive background. She served as the Chief Economist for the Department of Labor during President Obama's administration, as the United States Executive Director of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and as the US representative to the World Bank. CHC was proud to support her nomination.
With increasing diversity across America, Dr. Kugler’s confirmation marks an important milestone towards fostering a more inclusive economy for all Americans. She will be an important voice on the Federal Reserve Board and bring a unique and new perspective that is representative of the significant Hispanic and Latino population in this country.
A special thanks to CHC Member Senator Bob Menendez for his strong leadership to encourage the nomination of a Latino to the central bank's Board. The CHC also applauds President Biden for acknowledging the significance of Latino representation at all levels of government and for his nomination of Dr. Kugler.”
