WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Representative Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), released the following statement in support of Anna Gomez’s confirmation by the Senate to serve as a Commissioner for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Gomez is the first Latina or Latino to serve on the Commission in over two decades.

“Congratulations to Anna Gomez on her Senate confirmation to serve as the newest FCC CommissionerGomez is a talented and proven public servant and attorney who brings deep and extensive experience in communications policy to the Commission. Her expertise and sterling qualifications come from her years of private and public service at the FCC, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Congress, the White House, and, most recently, at the State Department’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy – and in the private sector.

I commend the Senate for heeding the CHC's earlier request and voting to confirm a highly-qualified Latina. This is an important step towards closing the digital gap that exists within our communities. The FCC plays a pivotal role in regulating communications that impact nearly every individual in our nation, underscoring the importance of Latino representation in its decision-making processes.

The CHC eagerly anticipates working with Gomez on communication matters.”
