Miami-Dade County Public Schools Teacher and DACA-Recipient Deported to Honduras

Location: Miami-Dade County

A middle school science teacher in Miami-Dade County was detained by ICE at a routine immigration hearing. He was subsequently deported to Honduras. The United Teachers of Dade, a union of more than 27,00 employees in the Miami-Dade County School System, confirmed the teacher was a DACA recipient. The teacher had been in the United States since the age of 13, obtained a college degree, and had no criminal record. The teacher’s deportation led to panic and fear among students and members of the community.
