Tri-Caucus Chairs Condemn Politically Motivated Attacks on Nonprofit Organizations 

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Chairs of the Congressional Tri-Caucus—Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-09), and Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13)—issued a joint statement today following a House Homeland Security hearing targeting over 200 nonprofit organizations:  

“We strongly condemn the House Homeland Security Committee’s baseless and politically motivated probe into more than 200 nonprofit organizations and religious groups that provide basic needs for children, immigrants, and other at-risk populations.  

“These charities and non-governmental organizations feed the hungry, shelter the unhoused, and help the most vulnerable among us—addressing urgent needs that the government alone cannot meet. Each recipient of federal funding must undergo a rigorous vetting process and fulfill the responsibilities outlined in their contract. 

“The Republican-led probe is not an investigation into the inappropriate use of taxpayer dollars. In fact, the Committee has targeted organizations that never received federal funding. Let’s call it what it is: a political witch hunt. It is a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence nonprofit organizations that provide services that the administration deems threatening to its political agenda. 

“The Republicans’ weaponization of government must end.”

Los presidentes del Tri-Caucus rechazan los ataques políticos en contra de organizaciones sin fines de lucro

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Los presidentes del Tri-Caucus del Congreso – la Presidente Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06) del Caucus Asiático y Pacífico Americano del Congreso (CAPAC), la Presidente Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-08) del Caucus Negro del Congreso (CBC por sus siglas en inglés) y el Presidente Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) del Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC) – emitieron una declaración conjunta hoy en respuesta a una audiencia del Comité de Seguridad Interior de la Cámara de Representantes en la cual se atacó a más de 200 organizaciones sin fines de lucro:

“Rechazamos la investigación con motivación política y sin bases legales del Comité de Seguridad Interior en contra de más de 200 organizaciones sin fines de lucro y grupos religiosos que proveen de necesidades básicas a niños, inmigrantes y otras poblaciones en riesgo.

“Estas obras de caridad y organizaciones no gubernamentales alimentan a los hambrientos, dan refugio a quienes carecen de techo propio, y ayudan a los más vulnerables – cubriendo necesidades que el gobierno por sí solo no puede abordar. Todo receptor de fondos federales debe aprobar un proceso riguroso de selección y debe cumplir sus responsabilidades contractuales.

“Esta investigación republicana no es una investigación sobre el uso adecuado de fondos federales. De hecho, el comité ha enfocado sus esfuerzos en organizaciones que nunca han recibido fondos federales. Hay que llamarlo por su nombre: es una cacería de brujas. Es un intento deliberado para intimidar y silenciar a las organizaciones sin fines de lucro que otorgan servicios que esta administración considera un peligro a su agenda política.

“Se debe terminar con el abuso de poder de los republicanos en el gobierno.”
