November 20, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán (CA-44) and incoming CHC Chair Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement:

“Every Member of Congress has the right to seek leadership positions, and Rep. Raúl Grijalva has proven himself a dedicated and visionary leader. As Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee, he has been a champion for environmental justice, Indigenous rights, Latinos, minorities, and climate action. His leadership secured the Great American Outdoors Act and the Environmental Justice For All Act, landmark victories for both the environment and frontline communities, including Latino populations that have long borne the brunt of environmental harm.

Rep. Grijalva’s tireless advocacy has shaped critical policies and executive actions that have advanced climate resilience, tribal sovereignty, and access to clean air and water. Notably, his work on the Puerto Rico Status Act offers a historic opportunity for the people of Puerto Rico to decide their political future.

His leadership continues to have a profound impact, ensuring that Latinos and marginalized communities are heard and supported. As he seeks to serve as Ranking Member through his final term in Congress, we proudly stand behind him, committed to supporting his continued fight for justice, equity, and opportunity for all.”
