Congressional Hispanic Caucus Statement on Developments in Puerto Rico
SAN ANTONIO—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, released the following statement on the recent developments in Puerto Rico:
"I'm grateful that the people of Puerto Rico's voices were heard and they are moving forward to restore faith, transparency, and accountability in their government. This will be remembered as a historic moment for Puerto Rico and all American citizens who call the island their home.
"Our federal government owes it to the people of Puerto Rico to live up to our promises. Moving forward, we must deliver the federal funding desperately needed for hurricane recovery and preparation, revitalize their healthcare and Medicaid system, and supply nutrition benefits to all who need it to feed their families.
"I look forward to continuing to support our Puerto Rico Task Force Co-Chairs, Congressman Serrano, Congresswoman Velazquez, and Congressman Soto, as they lead Congressional efforts to affirm the rights of the people of Puerto Rico."
