Congressional Hispanic Caucus Members Introduce Almost 200 Amendments to Confront GOP’s Broken, Partisan Defense Bill
Washington, D.C. – Today, Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) introduced a slate of amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to fight back against House Republicans’ broken defense bill, a partisan proposal that fails servicemembers, weakens national security, and abandons working families, immigrants, and communities of color across the country.
“Our servicemembers and their families sacrifice every day to defend our freedoms. The least Congress can do is honor them with a defense bill that meets the moment,” said CHC Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). “Instead, House Republicans are pushing a partisan package that undermines our military and turns its back on the very people who make our country strong. The CHC is stepping up with amendments that put people first, protect our communities, and strengthen our national security.”
The CHC’s amendments reflect a bold and comprehensive vision for a stronger, fairer defense policy, including:
- Protecting immigrant servicemembers and families by safeguarding pathways to citizenship and ensuring deportation relief.
- Defending national security by strengthening oversight of authoritarian regimes and enhancing accountability for foreign assistance.
- Supporting military families through affordable housing, access to child care, and expanded health care services.
- Ensuring fairness in federal contracting by expanding opportunities for Latino- and minority-owned small businesses.
- Advancing equity and resilience by addressing climate security, disaster preparedness, and protections for vulnerable communities.
The CHC remains unwavering in its commitment to servicemembers, working families, immigrants, and communities of color and will continue to use every legislative tool available to confront this broken bill and fight for a defense policy worthy of the American people.
