Congressional Hispanic Caucus Meets with Northern Triangle Special Envoy Ricardo Zúñiga

June 16, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) met with Ricardo Zúñiga, Department of State Special Envoy for the Northern Triangle, to discuss the Biden Administration's plan to identify and address the root causes of migration from Central America to the United States. Following the meeting, CHC Chair Dr. Raul Ruiz released the statement below:

"I would like to thank Special Envoy Ricardo Zúñiga for meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC)," said Chair Dr. Ruiz. "It is clear that migrants make the desperate decision to make the journey north due to the dismal and dangerous living conditions in their home countries. Therefore, we must address the root causes of migration. The CHC looks forward to continuing to collaborate with the Biden-Harris Administration to combat violence in the region, dismantle human trafficking organizations, create economic opportunity, and uphold human rights."

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), founded in December 1976, is organized as a Congressional Member organization, governed under the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. The CHC is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Territories.
