Congressional Hispanic Caucus Meets with Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro

October 5, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Last week, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) met with Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro to discuss efforts to increase diversity among military leadership ranks. One in four active-duty Marines are of Hispanic origin. However, racial and ethnic minorities remain underrepresented in parts of the military, particularly at the highest levels of leadership.

"Last week, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) held a productive meeting with Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro on how we can increase Hispanic representation in the Navy and the Naval Academy," said Chair Dr. Ruiz. "As the Hispanic American population grows, it is imperative that the Department of Defense (DoD) successfully recruit, develop, and promote highly skilled Hispanic service members that will allow the United States to confront the unprecedented challenges facing our nation at home and abroad. The CHC thanks Secretary Del Toro for his commitment to diversity, and we look forward to working with him to establish a more inclusive Navy."
