Congressional Hispanic Caucus Endorses Protect Older Job Applicants (POJA) Act

September 17, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) has endorsed H.R. 3992, or the Protect Older Job Applicants Act, introduced by Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29). The POJA Act would amend the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 to prohibit employers from discriminating against applicants on the basis of age during the hiring process.

"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) is proud to endorse the Protect Older Job Applicants (POJA) Act," said Chair Dr. Ruiz. "An estimated 76% of older American workers view age discrimination as a barrier to attaining employment. As millions of Americans seek to return to work, we must take a stand against all forms of workplace discrimination, including ageism. By ensuring that every American has a fair and equal opportunity when applying for a job, we can more effectively drive post-pandemic economic recovery together. I thank Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia for her leadership in introducing this bill."
