Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman on Introduction of A Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill

October 2, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Rubén Hinojosa released the following statement on the introduction of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act in the House:

"For years the Congressional Hispanic Caucus has been working with a bipartisan coalition in Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a pathway to citizenship. We have met with Republican Leaders, including Speaker John Boehner, and have provided them the opportunity to put forward a plan on immigration reform. They have not and we will no longer wait.

The Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act is modeled after the Senate's Gang of Eight immigration bill, which has the support of business, labor, the faith community and the American people. It provides a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants while addressing the needs of the border, business and agriculture and our DREAM students. Most importantly, it will make our economy stronger and our nation better."
