Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Statement on Nomination of Secretary Ken Salazar as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico

June 16, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, President Joe Biden announced the nomination of Secretary Ken Salazar as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. If confirmed, Salazar will be the third Mexican American and fourth Hispanic to hold the post.

Following the announcement, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Dr. Raul Ruiz (CA-36) released the subsequent statement:

"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) applauds the nomination of Secretary Ken Salazar to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico," said Chair Dr. Ruiz. "As Attorney General of Colorado, U.S. Senator, and Interior Secretary, Secretary Salazar has direct experience with key issues that affect the U.S.-Mexico relationship. Our relationship with our neighbor is more important than ever, and the United States would greatly benefit from having someone with his qualifications represent us in Mexico. I urge the Senate to swiftly confirm Secretary Salazar for the post of U.S. Ambassador to Mexico."

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), founded in December 1976, is organized as a Congressional Member organization, governed under the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. The CHC is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Territories.
