Congressional Hispanic Caucus Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15, 2019

SAN ANTONIO Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, released the following statement to mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month:

"I am so proud to mark this Hispanic Heritage Month with communities across our country. Latinos come from all walks of life and different backgrounds. Many of us are immigrants and proud of our heritage, but no matter our diverse backgrounds, we are all proud to be a part of our American family.

"Hispanics have contributed immeasurably to this country as public servants, military members, educators, athletes, entrepreneurs, and community organizers. Hispanic activists shaped the labor movement and paved the path for workers' rights today. Hispanic astronauts pushed the boundaries of science and leadership at NASA. Hispanic youth took to the streets to fight for the rights of Dreamers, pushing for progress and change. Even today, Hispanic artists shape the course of modern American music and culture.

"We are facing challenging times in this politically charged environment, but our Hispanic American community stands stronger and more proud than ever. As we face adversity, nothing can diminish the deep, enduring perseverance that defines us as Latinos. To all those celebrating, I hope you, your family, and community have a wonderful Hispanic Heritage Month."
