Congressional Hispanic Caucus Announces First Round of Task Forces for the 117th Congress

Mar 15, 2021
Press Release

WASHINGTON D.C.—Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Dr. Raul Ruiz formally announced the Chairs and Membership of five CHC Task Forces that have already been working this Congress to advance CHC’s bold legislative agenda in parallel with Congressional leaders and President Biden’s agenda. These five CHC Task Forces have been focused on CHC’s 100-day policy priorities aimed at addressing issues facing Hispanic communities as we work to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and build back better. The CHC will be announcing more Task Forces in the weeks to come to advance the Caucus’ work in other key policy areas in the 117th Congress.

“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus swiftly launched five task forces as part of our 100-day agenda to hit the ground running as soon as President Biden unveiled his agenda on Day One. I’m proud to formally announce the establishment of the COVID-19 Task Force, the Economic Recovery Task Force, the Climate Change Task Force, the Racial Justice Task Force and the Immigration Task Force that is split into three Sub-Task Forces focused on Immigration Reform, Executive Orders, and Budget Reconciliation and Endorsements of Immigration Legislation.” said Chairman Dr. Raul Ruiz. “The CHC is eager to work with Congressional leadership and President Biden to sign legislation into law that will improve the lives of all Americans, including the 60 million Hispanics living across the country. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented devastation to the health and economic well-being of Hispanic families and children. Millions of Hispanic high-risk essential workers, regardless of immigration status, have stood strong to help feed and keep America safe during the COVID-19 pandemic while bearing the brunt of COVID infections and deaths.

The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare existing inequities that have persisted in our country for decades. Congress and the CHC play important roles in enacting policies that will help defeat the pandemic, protect public health, work toward racial equity and environmental justice, and ensure that we have an equitable recovery, by stabilizing our essential workforce and powering our economy through broad immigration reform. This Congress, the CHC is 38 Members-strong, and we doubled the number of CHC Senators. I’m confident that CHC Members will work hard for the American people to build back better.”
