Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Senator Dianne Feinstein Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month
WASHINGTON— Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Senator Dianne Feinstein (CA) introduced H. Res. 453, a Resolution to formally recognize June as Immigrant Heritage Month.
"We are a nation of immigrants – both our diverse, vibrant American culture and our thriving economy have helped build our strong, prosperous nation. This month we celebrate all the immigrant families that have come from across the world and different cultural backgrounds to be a part of our American family. Today, immigrants and their descendants are homeowners, entrepreneurs, teachers, first responders, military members, and public servants. We must celebrate our nation's diversity and strength by formally recognizing June as Immigrant Heritage Month," said Chairman Castro. "As we mark this month, let us remember the American values that our country was founded upon; the character and history of our country has not changed. We must continue as a beacon of hope and refuge for families seeking a better life."
"Immigrants have been at the heart of what America symbolizes since its founding," said Senator Feinstein. "I'm proud to introduce this resolution today and make clear that our country welcomes – and must continue to welcome – immigrants. For generations we've benefitted from the many contributions of those born outside our borders, and almost all of us trace our family history to another country. It's only right we celebrate our immigrant heritage today and every day."
The Resolution was cosponsored by 52 members of the House and 5 members of the Senate: Veasey, Espaillat, Schakowsky, McGovern, Mucarsel-Powell, Jackson Lee, Norton, Bass, Case, Chu, Green, Lieu, Torres, Omar, Shalala, Velázquez, Napolitano, Vargas, Cisneros, Grijalva, Takano, Escobar, Smith, Moore, Correa, Cuellar, C.
