Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Congressional Progressive Caucus Members Condemn the Trump Administration’s Abusive Immigration Overreach
Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) hosted a Special Order Hour on the House floor to call attention to the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration overreach and emphasize the urgent need for accountability.
Members spoke out against the administration’s latest violent enforcement actions, highlighting the human toll of aggressive ICE operations on immigrant communities nationwide. The event also showcased CHC’s ongoing work to protect immigrant families and communities, and highlighted CPC’s recently announced slate of immigration accountability bills aimed at combating abuses and restoring fairness in our immigration system.
"The violence and terror happening in our communities is not an accident, nor is it new. DHS is not rogue. From its establishment, DHS has always been empowered to violate our rights under the pretense of securing our safety. But nothing DHS is doing is making us safer. And Americans are done," said Rep. Delia Ramirez. "True security cannot be realized through oppression, dehumanization, and criminalization. As Members of Congress, we must actively build, through policies, a future grounded in our human rights and in a commitment to due process, the rule of law, and the Constitution. We must resist the fear that would tell us we must surrender our rights and forfeit our values in order to protect the little we have when we deserve so much more."
“Back in New York City, my community is being terrorized – we are hearing from folks every day. Just recently, a video surfaced from 26 Federal Plaza in New York City that showed a distraught woman violently shoved to the ground by an ICE officer as her child watched. The woman was unarmed, non-violent, and posed no threat,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. “The American people are seeing the reality of this enforcement: fear, brutality, and injustice. They will not stand for it, and neither should we.”
“The Trump administration has turned immigration enforcement into a weapon of fear and it is long past time for Congress to put an end to this terror. In my own district, this administration has sent ICE to target Somalis and it is doing so with the clear intent to intimidate and destabilize our community,” said Rep. Ilhan Omar, Congressional Progressive Caucus Deputy Chair. “We cannot normalize raids, indefinite detention, and deportations without due process in place of policy. I am proud to stand with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Congressional Progressive Caucus to push for accountability and build a system that treats immigrants with dignity.”

Miembros del Caucus Hispano del Congreso y del Caucus Progresista del Congreso condenan el abuso migratorio de la administración Trump
Washington, D.C. — Este miércoles, el Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC) y el Caucus Progresista del Congreso (CPC) llevaron a cabo una “Special Order Hour” en el pleno de la Cámara de Representantes para llamar la atención sobre el continuo abuso migratorio de la administración Trump y enfatizar la urgente necesidad de rendición de cuentas.
Los miembros se pronunciaron en contra de las más recientes acciones violentas por parte de oficiales bajo el mando de la administración, destacando el costo humano de las operaciones agresivas de ICE en las comunidades inmigrantes a nivel nacional. El evento también demostró el trabajo continuo del CHC para proteger a las familias y comunidades inmigrantes, y resaltó la reciente propuesta de proyectos de ley de responsabilidad migratoria del CPC, dirigidos a combatir los abusos y restaurar la justicia en nuestro sistema migratorio.
“La violencia y el terror que están ocurriendo en nuestras comunidades no son un accidente, ni tampoco algo nuevo. El DHS no se ha desviado. Desde su creación, el DHS siempre ha estado facultado para violar nuestros derechos bajo el pretexto de proteger nuestra seguridad. Pero nada de lo que hace el DHS nos está manteniendo más seguros. Y el pueblo estadounidense ya está cansado,” dijo la congresista Delia Ramírez. “La verdadera seguridad no puede lograrse a través de la opresión, la deshumanización y la criminalización. Como Miembros del Congreso, debemos construir activamente —mediante políticas públicas— un futuro basado en nuestros derechos humanos y en el respeto al debido proceso, el estado de derecho y la Constitución. Debemos resistir el miedo que pretende convencernos de que debemos renunciar a nuestros derechos y traicionar nuestros valores para proteger lo poco que tenemos, cuando merecemos mucho más.”
“En la ciudad de Nueva York, mi comunidad está siendo aterrorizada —recibimos informes de personas todos los días. No lo van a tolerar, y nosotros tampoco deberíamos.”
“La administración Trump ha convertido la aplicación de las leyes migratorias en un arma de miedo, y ya es hora de que el Congreso ponga fin a este terror. En mi propio distrito, esta administración ha enviado a ICE a enfocarse en la comunidad somalí, y lo hace con la clara intención de intimidar y desestabilizar nuestra comunidad”, dijo la congresista Ilhan Omar, vicepresidenta del Caucus Progresista del Congreso. “No podemos normalizar redadas, detenciones indefinidas y deportaciones sin debido proceso como política.
