The CHC Stands With California Against the GOP's Attack on Democracy
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus endorses California's "Election Rigging Response Act"
WASHINGTON, DC — The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) supports California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s legislative efforts to address extreme redistricting policy efforts and to counter the unprecedented conservative power grab.
This is an emergency for our democracy, and Federal, State, and Local Democratic officials must help defend against policies and efforts to rig free and fair elections. The CHC unequivocally supports California’s “Election Rigging Response Act.”
“California’s plan to counter Trump’s Texas Republican scheme is an example of what we as Democrats can do to protect representation for all,” said CHC Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). “The ‘Election Rigging Response Act’ upholds the Voting Rights Act and only takes effect if Republicans carry out their attack on fair maps in Texas. It then returns redistricting authority to an independent commission after the emergency ends. This is smart, thoughtful, and powerful legislation. This is how we fight back.”
Congress must now defend democracy with every tool at our disposal.

El Caucus Hispano del Congreso da su apoyo formal al "Election Rigging Response Act" de California
WASHINGTON, D.C. — El Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC) apoya los esfuerzos legislativos del Gob. Gavin Newsom de California para responder a los intentos extremistas para redistribuir distritos del Congreso y para hacer frente a la toma de poder conservadora sin precedentes.
Esta es una emergencia para nuestra democracia, y los oficiales demócratas a nivel federal, estatal y local deben ayudar para defenderla en contra de las políticas y esfuerzos que buscan manipular las elecciones libres y justas. El CHC apoya inequívocamente la propuesta de California, “Election Rigging Response Act.”
