CHC ON REP. CANTOR RESIGNATION

June 11, 2014

Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) released the following statement on the resignation of Majority Leader Eric Cantor from House Republican Leadership and what this means for immigration reform.

"Let's set the record straight: House Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor is out of touch with constituents in his district and Americans across the country. Eighty-four percent of voters in Mr. Cantor's district believe we must reform our nation's broken immigration system this year. During his press conference today, Mr. Cantor said he wants to see a step-by-step approach to immigration reform yet he, and his Republican colleagues, have not offered any solutions and have blocked progress every step of the way.

"Millions of immigrant families, businesses and community leaders are desperately waiting for Congress to act, and this powerful movement for immigration reform does not end today. Immigration reform is not dead. Together with our allies, we remain committed to not letting House Republicans get away with inaction on comprehensive immigration reform," said CHC Chairman Rubén Hinojosa.
