Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) and CHC First Vice Chair Ben Ray Luján (NM-03) released the following statement following President Barack Obama's nomination of Leon Rodriguez as United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director and Alejandro Mayorkas who was confirmed by the Senate to be the next Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS):
"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus congratulates Alejandro Mayorkas on his Senate confirmation as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and supports the nomination of Leon Rodriguez as USCIS Director. These two men have a strong record of public service and lead some of our country's most important immigration work. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus looks forward to working with Alejandro in his new role and will continue to support Leon through his Senate confirmation," said Chairman Rubén Hinojosa.
“In choosing Leon Rodriguez, President Obama has selected an individual who has demonstrated the leadership and depth of experience necessary to address the important issue of immigration. We encourage the Senate to act swiftly on Mr. Rodriguez’s nomination. We also congratulate Deputy Secretary Mayorkas on his confirmation and look forward to working with him on matters critical to our nation’s security and success,” said First Vice Chair and Diversity Task Force Chair Ben Ray Luján.
The U.S. Senate voted to confirm Alejandro Mayorkas to be the next Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, the second highest ranking position at DHS. President Obama has nominated Leon Rodriguez to fill Alejandro's position as the next USCIS Director, also at the Department of Homeland Security.
