CHC ON 24 MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS
Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Rubén Hinojosa, released the following statement on the awarding of the Medal of Honor to 24 army veterans of Latino, Jewish, and African-American descent. These veterans had been previously denied the nation's highest military honor because of their backgrounds. Of the 24 recipients, 17 are Latino.
"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus recognizes the 24 men who after much too long are finally receiving the recognition they deserve. This group of men never sought anything but the simple opportunity to serve their country. Their heroism, sacrifice, and humility is truly remarkable and we are most grateful to them and their families for their service.
At a time when our minority communities are often marginalized and neglected, let us remember these heroic men who fought so bravely for our country. These veterans of Latino, African-American and Jewish backgrounds are members of America's minority communities. They represent the best of our country's diverse communities and their role in history will never be forgotten."
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), founded in December 1976, is organized as a Congressional Member organization, governed under the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. The CHC is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Territories.
