CHC Leadership Statement Opposing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act)
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus leadership issued the following statement opposing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (H.R. 8281), or the SAVE Act.
“The SAVE ACT is an attempt by MAGA Republicans to validate Donald Trump’s baseless big lie at the expense of our democracy and its institutions,” said CHC Leadership. “This bill is extreme and dangerous as it will purge millions of legal voters from state rolls and make it much more difficult for Americans to reregister to vote. By banning driver’s licenses, REAL IDs, military, and other state-provided identification from the voter registration process, this will deter Americans from seeking the form of identification MAGA Republicans deem worthy, and overburden overworked federal agencies. Let’s call it what it is – this is a direct attack on hard-working families, including Latino communities. We are committed to protecting American’s right to vote, and we will stand against extremists attempting to undermine confidence and faith in our free and fair elections.”
