CHC Honors Dobbs Anniversary with Call for Reproductive Justice and Equity

Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) proudly co-hosted a storytelling event focused on racial and reproductive rights, health, and justice to mark the anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

In collaboration with the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, CHC members heard powerful firsthand accounts of how abortion bans and access barriers are affecting lives across the country.

“Three years have passed since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending nearly five decades of constitutional protection for the right to abortion. In doing so, it stripped away a fundamental freedom for childbearing individuals and opened the door to a wave of restrictions that have put millions at risk,” said CHC Chair Adriano Espaillat. “As we heard today, the consequences are not theoretical — they are real and immediate. I believe the right to decide over one’s body is a matter of freedom, dignity, and equality. We must continue to speak out, organize, and demand a future where everyone has access to safe and legal reproductive care.”

The CHC remains committed to advancing a dialogue rooted in justice and legislative accountability. This event underscores our commitment to uplifting the voices of those most impacted by attacks on reproductive rights.

El CHC Conmemora el Aniversario de Dobbs con un Llamado por la Justicia y la Equidad Reproductiva

Washington, D.C. – El Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC, por sus siglas en inglés) se enorgullece de haber organizado un evento de testimonios centrado en los derechos raciales y reproductivos, la salud y la justicia, para conmemorar el aniversario del fallo Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

En colaboración con el Caucus Negro del Congreso, el Caucus Asiático y Pacífico Americano y el Caucus por la Libertad Reproductiva, integrantes del CHC escucharon relatos conmovedores sobre cómo la prohibición del aborto y las barreras de acceso están afectando la vida de personas en todo Estados Unidos.

“Han pasado tres años desde que la Corte Suprema anuló Roe vs. Wade, poniendo fin a casi cinco décadas de protección constitucional del derecho al aborto. Con esa decisión, se eliminó una libertad fundamental para las personas gestantes y se desató una ola de restricciones que han puesto en riesgo a millones,” declaró el presidente del CHC, Adriano Espaillat. “Como escuchamos hoy, las consecuencias no son hipotéticas—son reales y urgentes. Creo que el derecho a decidir sobre el propio cuerpo es una cuestión de libertad, dignidad e igualdad. Tenemos que seguir alzando la voz, organizándonos y exigiendo un futuro en el que todas las personas tengan acceso a servicios de salud reproductiva seguros y legales.”

El CHC mantiene su compromiso de promover un diálogo basado en la justicia y la responsabilidad legislativa. Este evento reafirma nuestro esfuerzo por visibilizar las voces de quienes están siendo más afectados por los ataques a los derechos reproductivos.
