CHC Champions Stopgap Funding CR That Excludes Extremist Republican Immigration Policies

September 30, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) issued the following statement in response to the continuing resolution (CR) that did not include border or immigration policy changes.

“The CHC stood united alongside the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and Congressional Progressive Caucus to ensure Republicans did not use immigrants as political leverage in their manufactured shutdown fiasco,” said Chair Barragán. “Republican dysfunction led us down the path to a dangerous shutdown of our federal government. When they lacked the support for their own plan, they tried to force inhumane and wasteful immigration and border policies into the bill. The CHC immediately went to work with our colleagues to make clear that this was not acceptable and would jeopardize support for a bill. Today’s CR does not include any new immigration or border policies as a result of our leadership and collective advocacy. This demonstrates the power of standing together to protect immigrants and fight for a more just and humane immigration system.”
