FULL REMARKS

Hello, I'm Linda Sánchez, Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

This Earth Day is an opportunity for us to think about our impact on the environment.

In the Latino community, many of us are already strong environmentalists. Our padres y abuelitos taught us to be resourceful and not be wasteful. They've taught us to recycle grocery bags and to reuse containers. To grow herbs and vegetables in our backyard for the meals we cook.

As one of seven children growing up, I wore a lot of hand-me down clothes passed down to me by my older sisters. I didn't always enjoy wearing Loretta and Martha's outfits, but I've learned that finding new ways to use things is one of the best things we can do for our planet.

Environmental issues are Latino issues and they impact every single one of us.

As a mom, I'm teaching my six year-old son Joaquin how to conserve resources just as my familia taught me to do. Sometimes he reminds me to recycle, reduce and reuse.

I want him to grow up in a safe and healthy environment and ensure that he and future generations have that same opportunity.

Join me in celebrating Earth Day by strengthening these efforts and renewing your commitment to protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the planet we call home.

Las costumbres de nuestras familias ayudan al medio ambiente. Tenemos una responsabilidad de proteger el planeta. ¡Únete a estos esfuerzos hoy!

Thank you. Gracias.
