CHC CHAIR TO ATTEND INAUGURAL MASS WITH POPE FRANCIS I

March 19, 2013

Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15), who is part of the U.S. delegation attending Pope Francis I's inaugural Mass at the Vatican today, led by Vice President Joe Biden and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, released the following statement:

"I was quite honored, being a Roman Catholic, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and representing a Congressional district which is predominately Catholic, to have been invited by Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to attend the investiture of Pope Francis I at the Vatican in Italy. The pride and the joy that many of us who are Hispanic feel, is due to the fact that for the first time we have a Pope who was chosen from a Latin American country! To many of us Latinos, our new Pope is a sign that the Catholic Church has come to recognize the growing number of faithful followers from around the world who are Latino."
