CHC CHAIR ON WHAT HE HOPES TO HEAR DURING SOTU

January 28, 2014

"I look forward to hearing how President Obama plans to continue moving our country forward. In every State of the Union address he has given, President Obama has mentioned the importance of immigration reform. I believe we will hear his commitment to seeing comprehensive immigration reform pass in Congress, and for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), this remains a top priority. The undocumented community of 11 million has been living in the shadows for far too long. Fixing our nation's broken immigration system is simply the right thing to do for our country and economy.

Tonight, I hope and expect to hear President Obama speak on how we can ensure that the American Dream remains within reach for every person. Our economy is improving, but to continue that progress we must invest in our children and middle-class families. From expanding education opportunities for young Americans to renewing unemployment benefits and creating jobs, the CHC is committed to working for low-income and middle-class families on the issues that matter most."
