CHC CHAIR GONZALEZ STATEMENT ON MEETING WITH PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

May 3, 2011

Washington, DC - Congressman Charles A. Gonzalez, Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), released the following statement after members of the CHC met with President Obama:

"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus had a productive meeting with President Obama. There was an agreement that overhauling our inadequate immigration laws can only be accomplished with legislative action in Congress and that avenue will continue to be pursued. The CHC also continued to advocate the President to use his administrative authority under present laws to provide relief from the harsh inequities in this broken system. The President agrees with the CHC that it is in the best interest of our county to utilize our limited resources to apprehend and deport dangerous criminals, not promising students who were brought to the U.S. by their parents. The CHC will continue to work with the President and the Administration in pursuing much needed comprehensive immigration reform.”
