CHC CHAIR GONZALEZ STATEMENT ON 84TH BIRTHDAY OF CESAR E. CHAVEZ

(Washington, DC) - Today, Congressman Charles A. Gonzalez released the following statement in honor of the 84th anniversary of Cesar E. Chavez's birthday:

“If there was ever anyone who led by example, it was Cesar Chavez. He sacrificed everything for the greater good and inspired everyone to look beyond their own-self interest. He knew that a better life existed for millions and dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. On this day, we are grateful for his contributions and his inspiration, we recommit ourselves to his fight for justice, and we commemorate him with his own words:

" It is my deepest belief that only by giving life do we find life, that the truest act courage, the strongest act of manliness is to sacrifice ourselves for others in a totally non-violent struggle for justice. To be a man is to suffer for others, God help us to be men."– Cesar E. Chavez
