CHC CHAIR GONZALEZ STATEMENT IN CELEBRATION OF CINCO DE MAYO

Washington, DC - Congressman Charles A. Gonzalez (TX – 20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), released the following statement in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, which marks the historic triumph of the Mexican people over the French Army in the battle of Puebla in 1862:

“Cinco de Mayo marks a special occasion in Mexico’s history but also recognizes that every person strives for freedom and an opportunity to build a better life. I’m proud to celebrate along with millions of Mexicans and Mexican Americans the importance of this date, as well as recognize the countless contributions Mexican Americans have made and continue to make to our nation.

“From serving our country abroad in uniform to the rich cultural heritage Mexican Americans have brought to the United States, the Hispanic community plays a significant role in shaping the America that we live in today. I’m honored to recognizing these contributions and call on all Americans to join me in celebrating Cinco de Mayo.”
