Washington, D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement in response to former Rep. Eliot Engel's passing this Friday:
“I am saddened to learn of the passing of former Rep. Eliot Engel.
Eliot will be remembered as a passionate defender of human rights and a powerful voice for his constituents in Westchester and the Bronx.
His commitment to public service was only rivaled by his thirst for knowledge. Eliot's diplomatic efforts sought to improve the lives of millions and elevate the moral standing of the United States of America around the world.
He understood that he was not only a representative for his district – he was an ambassador for his constituents to the nation and to the world.
This world needs more statesmen like Eliot Engel.”

Washington, D.C. — El presidente del Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC) Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) emitió el siguente comunicado sobre el fallecimiento del ex-Rep. Eliot Engel este viernes:
“Me entristece enterarme del fallecimiento del ex-Rep. Eliot Engel.
Eliot será recordado como un defensor apasionado de los derechos humanos y como un portavoz poderoso para sus votantes de Weschester y el Bronx.
Su compromiso con el servicio público se comparaba solamente con su sed de aprendizaje. Los esfuerzos diplomáticos de Eliot buscaron mejorar las vidas de millones de personas y elevar la postura moral de los Estados Unidos de América alrededor del mundo.
Él entendió que no era sólo un representante para su distrito – era un embajador de sus votantes ante la nación y ante el mundo.
