Vice-Chair Torres and Representative Correa were part of the official United States Presidential Delegation to Guatemala City, Guatemala for the presidential inauguration

Washington D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Vice Chair Norma J. Torres (CA-35) and Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) issued the following statement after the inauguration of President Bernardo Arévalo in Guatemala:

“The Guatemalan people have spoken, and their votes must be respected. The United States unequivocally stands with those fighting for democracy in Guatemala, and the CHC was honored to be part of President Biden’s delegation to Guatemala to witness President Arévalo take office. A peaceful transfer of power is critical to Guatemala’s democratic future, and we pledge to stand against those upholding systemic corruption in Guatemala.

“The CHC urges all Guatemalans including the outgoing President, the Guatemalan Congress, the private sector, and civil society organizations to work together with the democratically elected new administration to ensure the democratic process and will of the people are both upheld. The CHC looks forward to working with President Arévalo to grow our economies, strengthen our democratic institutions, and build better futures for both nations.”
