CHC CELEBRATES ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) released the following video message celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. There are seven CHC Members who are also part of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) including House Democratic Caucus Chair Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Congressman Raúl Grijalva (AZ-03), Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), and Rep. Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan (CNMI).

CHC Chairman Rubén Hinojosa's full remarks:

"Hello. I'm Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

This month of May, we recognize the contributions the Asian Pacific American community has made to our country. During this time I would like to recognize Congresswoman Judy Chu, who chairs the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. Congresswoman Chu has been on the frontlines with me, fighting for comprehensive immigration reform.

With 18.9 million Americans of Asian descent, the Asian American community is one of the fastest growing in the country. Asian Pacific Americans are making enormous contributions in every sector. From the 1.5 million Asian American business owners to the 34,000 veterans who have served our country, the Asian American community is a part of our American fabric.

The Latino and Asian Pacific American communities share a lot in common. Both communities share a history of immigration to this country, a commitment to family values, and a belief that hard work leads to the American Dream. In Congress, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus work closely together on issues like immigration reform, jobs and the economy, and education. By working together we seek to empower our communities and make America stronger.

Seven Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus also serve on the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. These Members are Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus Xavier Becerra, Congressman Raúl Grijalva, Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, Congressman Gregorio "Kilili" Camacho Sablan, Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. These seven Members represent very diverse districts that include large Asian American constituencies.

This Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, I encourage you to join me in celebrating the Asian Pacific American community and recognize the contributions they have made to our country.
