CHC Backs Rep. Raúl Grijalva for Continued Leadership on Natural Resources

November 29, 2024

Los Angeles, CA — Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán (CA-44) announced the CHC’s endorsement of Representative Raúl Grijalva (AZ-07) to continue his role as Ranking Member of the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee.

“Rep. Raúl Grijalva is more than ready to lead the House Natural Resources Democrats as they take on a Trump Administration and Republican majority bent on policies that will take public lands from the American public, reduce conservation, diminish protections for Native American lands and tribes, and make our air and water dirtier. Rep. Grijalva took on the Trump Administration once and that experience and his deep knowledge of procedure, process, and policy make him the best choice to serve as Ranking Member of the Committee,” said Chair Barragán.

“Rep. Grijalva has demonstrated the expertise, vision, and results-driven leadership our communities need over his 20 years of service as a member of the Natural Resources Committee. He has authored and led legislation to address the disproportionate negative environmental effects of climate change on the health of communities of color and has championed conservation efforts to protect our federal lands.  His dedication and advocacy as the top Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee, has delivered critical investments in clean water and renewable energy, protections for public and tribal land and strengthened tribal sovereignty. Rep. Grijalva has improved the lives of millions of Americans, including Latinos nationwide, through his work on the committee.”

“The CHC is committed to Latino and Latina representation in all aspects of public and private life, including the Halls of Congress. As the first Latino to chair the Natural Resources Committee, Rep. Grijalva has been a trailblazer on efforts to tackle environmental and equity challenges. His proven ability to secure results will be essential in the next Congress as we are faced with a new administration hostile to efforts to address climate change, conservation, and environmental justice.”

“The CHC is proud to endorse Rep. Grijalva to serve as Ranking Member for his final term in Congress, so that he can continue his life’s work to advance and protect environmental sustainability, access, and equity for all Americans.”
